CSDI - The Arts and Humanities Research Board (AHRB) Centre for the Study of the Domestic Interior, based at the Royal College of Art in London, brings together three institutions: the Royal College of Art, the Victoria and Albert Museum, and the Bedford Centre for the History of Women at Royal Holloway, University of London. Launched in September 2001, its goal is to develop new histories of the home, its contents, and its representation. It pursues research into the changing appearance and layout of rooms in a range of buildings, from tenements to palaces; the objects that furnished those rooms; the ways rooms and objects were depicted; the manner in which people used them; and how they thought about them.

On-line Register of Scholars
The Register of Scholars contains details about people around the world who are researching any aspect of the domestic interior 1400 to the present. If you would like to be included in the register, please send us the following information: your contact details for on-line publication, institutional affiliation, subject area and description of research interests or current projects (approx.50 words).

On-line Register of Phd Theses
The Register of Doctoral Theses is a new initative that aims to provide a centralised listing of theses that investigate the domestic interior from any disciplinary perspective in the arts, humanities, and social sciences, both those that are recently completed and in progress. While there are existing resources for information on doctoral research, such as Dissertation Abstracts and the College Art Association in America, and the Institute of Historical Research in Britain, their coverage is often limited, and many students working across disciplines are overlooked. We hope to compile as complete a register as possible. Students may submit entries themselves, but supervisors of PhD students working in this area are also encouraged send us information. Entries should include the following: student’s name, thesis title, supervisor’s name, institution, department, and student’s email address.
